1. College Overview

Hunan Polytechnic College Nanhu College was established in June 2002 with approval from the Hunan Provincial People's Government, and it became a full-time independent undergraduate college in 2003, the first batch to be confirmed by the Ministry of Education. In January 2005, the college received high praise in the Ministry of Education’s special inspection and evaluation of school conditions. In 2007 and 2008, it ranked among the top independent colleges in Hunan Province in the annual inspection. In 2010, the college received high evaluations from the provincial education department and experts during the province’s independent colleges’ professional construction inspection. In the same year, at the 2010 China Independent College Association Summit, the college was awarded the title of "National Advanced Independent College." In May 2012, the college successfully passed the Hunan Provincial People's Government Degree Committee's review for the right to confer bachelor’s degrees and to authorize disciplines and programs. Currently, the college has nearly 6,000 students from 21 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across China.

2. Organizational Management

The college operates under a leadership structure headed by the Board of Directors and a president responsible for operations. It has several administrative departments, including the Office, Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, Admissions and Employment Office, Logistics Office, Youth League Committee, and six academic departments: the Department of Literature and Law, Department of Foreign Languages and Business Trade, Department of Economics and Management, Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Department of Architecture and Chemical Engineering, and the Department of Physical Education. The teaching and administrative management structures are sound. The college has developed and improved various rules and regulations, creating a complete system, flexible mechanisms, standardized management, and smooth operations.

3. Educational Philosophy

The college follows the educational philosophy of "Focusing on student success, meeting societal needs, and preparing for future development" and adheres to its motto "True, Good, and Beautiful." With a high-quality teaching staff and superior educational resources, the college implements a talent cultivation model based on "basic quality + special skills" as its fundamental goal. It emphasizes a "broad foundation, practical experience, and specialization" approach, integrating undergraduate education with vocational and professional quality education. The goal is to nurture application-oriented, high-level talents with strong practical abilities, innovation potential, and social adaptability, responding to the economic and social development needs of the country.

4. Educational Facilities

The college covers an area of 506 acres, with a total building area of 157,000 square meters, including 100,000 square meters for teaching and administrative offices and 60,000 square meters for student dormitories. The sports facilities cover 46,000 square meters, with over 10,000 square meters dedicated to the library. There are standardized athletic fields, modern sports training halls, multifunctional studios, art and music buildings, as well as well-equipped laboratories and language rooms. The campus infrastructure is complete, and the environment is beautiful.

5. Faculty

The college currently has 373 full-time teachers, 269 of whom have a master’s degree or higher. There are 185 teachers with senior professional titles, including 71 professors. Over the past three years, the excellent rate for faculty classroom teaching evaluations has been over 96.3%. During the independent college classroom teaching inspection organized by the Provincial Department of Education, the teaching level of the college’s faculty received full recognition from the expert group. In the past five years, faculty members have hosted over 100 provincial and national projects, including National Natural Science Foundation projects, National Social Science Fund projects, and Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science projects. The college’s faculty members have published more than 200 research papers in national and provincial academic journals and published more than 30 books.

6. Educational Achievements

Over the past 20 years, the college has trained and delivered more than 25,000 outstanding talents to society. The employment rate for graduates is consistently above 96%, ranking among the top independent colleges in the province. In 2021, the initial employment rate of graduates ranked first among independent colleges in Hunan Province. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, the college has achieved remarkable results in teaching awards, high-quality courses, teaching research and reform, and the construction of excellent internship teaching bases. Several teaching and research projects have received funding from the provincial government and education departments. The college’s students have won 232 awards in national and provincial-level subject knowledge competitions and skills contests, including 7 national first prizes, 20 national second prizes, and 8 national third prizes. At the provincial level, students won 20 first prizes, 69 second prizes, and 108 third prizes.

7. Educational Characteristics

The college adheres to the applied talent cultivation philosophy of "practical education," constructing a "platform + module" course system. This includes four major platforms: "General Education," "Professional Education," "Practical Innovation," and "Quality Development," as well as 10 modules: "Basic Courses," "Core Subject Courses," "Professional Core Courses," "Specialized Courses," "Practical Courses," "Academic Competitions," "Cultural and Sports Competitions," "Social Practice," "Innovation and Entrepreneurship," and "Professional Skills." It has designed a "2+N" talent training framework that fully leverages the flexibility of independent college management. The college is actively promoting quality engineering, focusing on professional development, curriculum development, and ideological education in courses, establishing special majors, high-quality courses, teaching and research reforms, and innovation and entrepreneurship projects, as well as strengthening online course development with platforms like "Online Teaching Platforms" and "Open Online Courses."
