Jining University is a provincial, full-time, regular undergraduate institution located in Qufu, a world-renowned historical and cultural city, the birthplace of Confucianism, the hometown of Confucius, and the Eastern Sacred City. The school traces its origins to the Tengxian Special Area Cadre Cultural Supplementary School established in 1951, and was formerly known as Jining Normal College. In March 2007, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to Jining University. In November 2008, the century-old Qufu Normal School, founded in 1905, was merged into Jining University.
Rooted in the land of Confucius and Mencius, and immersed in the sacred Confucian culture, the school upholds the motto "Extensive learning, firm determination, choosing the good, and promoting virtue." It has cultivated a school spirit of "sincerity and simplicity, seeking truth and innovation," a teaching style of "tireless instruction, promoting character and encouraging learning," and a learning style of "never tiring of learning, asking questions and thinking critically." The school adheres to the educational philosophy of "students first, teachers prioritized, serving the local area" and aims to build a high-quality applied university. The school has followed a path of integrating industry and education, and school-enterprise cooperation, while focusing on improving the quality of applied talent cultivation through teaching reforms. Over decades, the university has cultivated more than 100,000 qualified talents for the party and the country and has made significant contributions to the local economic and social development. The school has been recognized with various honors, including National Advanced Unit in Mass Sports, Provincial Excellent Moral Education Unit, Provincial Civilized Campus, and others.
The school benefits from rich resources in Confucian culture and revolutionary red culture. The campus of the School of Primary Education, located in the historical city of Qufu, is near the Confucius Temple to the west and the Confucius Mansion to the north. It is a unique geographical location with excellent cultural environment, and is a key national cultural heritage site. The school also houses a strong historical heritage, with a long tradition of educational development dating back to the early 20th century, when the Kong family established a teacher training school in 1905.
The school covers an area of 1,721 acres, with a building area of 614,000 square meters. It currently has 24,476 full-time students. The university has 19 teaching units, offering 51 undergraduate programs and 22 vocational programs, covering nine major disciplines, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. The library holds over 2.06 million physical books, over 1.35 million e-books, and more than 2.73 million e-journals, with 42 electronic resource databases. The university boasts modern teaching and experimental facilities, with teaching and research instruments valued at over 290 million RMB. The school is a leader in building a smart campus, with information-based and smart education systems ranked among the top universities in Shandong Province. The "5G+Smart Education" project has been selected as a pilot application by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and its "Smart Classroom" achievements have been recognized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education as a model case for information technology application.
The university actively focuses on applied talent cultivation, aligning its programs with the development needs of the "Ten Strong Industries" in Shandong Province and the "231" industrial cluster in Jining. The school has established several high-level applied professional groups in chemistry, mechanical engineering, biology, and more, and has developed partnerships with local governments and key industry enterprises. The school is also deeply involved in scientific research and innovation, with a focus on major national and regional strategic needs.
The university maintains an open approach to education, actively engaging with the national "Belt and Road" initiative.
