Longdong University is a full-time comprehensive provincial public undergraduate institution located in Qingyang City, Gansu Province. Its predecessor, Qingyang Normal College, was established in 1978 with approval from the State Council. In 1992, it was renamed Qingyang Normal Higher Vocational School. In 2001, the Agricultural Science Research Institute and Agricultural School of the Qingyang region merged with the school, and in 2003, it was officially named Longdong University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, Qingyang Health School was incorporated. In 2013, the university passed the undergraduate teaching quality assessment. In 2015, it was listed as one of the first batch of transformation development pilot universities by Gansu Province. In 2017, it was selected by the Gansu Provincial Degree Committee as a unit for the development of master's degree programs. Between 2022 and 2023, the university was supported by East China University of Science and Technology, Shaanxi Normal University, South China University of Technology, and Northwest A&F University. In 2024, it was approved by the State Council's Degree Committee to confer master's degrees. The university follows a provincial and local joint construction system, with the province taking the lead.
The university currently covers an area of 1,309.64 acres with a building area of 570,000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.1 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching equipment is 163 million yuan. The library holds 2.03 million books. There are currently 18,758 full-time students enrolled, with students from 28 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China. The university has 1,284 faculty and staff members, including 507 with senior professional titles, and 850 faculty members with doctoral or master's degrees. The faculty includes four experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, 54 recipients of provincial awards for outstanding experts and talent programs, and 43 faculty members receiving high-level professional and technical allowances from Gansu Province. The university also has 102 faculty members serving as doctoral and master's supervisors at partner institutions.
The university has 13 academic schools: the School of Marxism, the School of Literature and History, the School of Education and Sports, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Mathematics and Information Engineering, the School of Agriculture and Biological Engineering, the School of Arts, the School of Petrochemical Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, the School of Medicine, the School of Geography and Urban Planning, and the Continuing Education College. It offers 36 academic programs across nine disciplines, including the humanities, natural sciences, education, engineering, agriculture, and management.
The university has a national-level first-class undergraduate program in Biological Sciences and national-level distinctive programs. It offers 19 provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs, including Civil Engineering, Primary Education, Agronomy, History, Economics, Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Automation, and Computer Science and Technology. The university offers 41 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses and 27 provincial-level excellent courses, with one provincial-level excellent online open course. It also has 10 provincial-level teaching teams, and 11 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers in fields such as Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biology, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering, Agricultural Science and Technology, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Automation Engineering. The university is home to 10 provincial-level teaching masters.
Longdong University has five provincial-level key disciplines, including Chinese History, Biology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Crop Science. It also has several provincial-level research and innovation platforms, including the Gansu Province Longdong Biological Resources Protection and Ecological Restoration Key Laboratory, the Gansu Province Longdong Oil and Gas Resource Efficient Utilization Key Laboratory, and the Gansu Province Dryland Winter Wheat Germplasm Innovation and Application Engineering Research Center, among others. The university is also a base for the study and implementation of Xi Jinping's thought on the rule of law and a key research base for the development of national identity and community consciousness. It has built collaborations with local government and industry partners, including the Qingyang Municipal People's Congress and several research centers focusing on regional agricultural, environmental, and energy challenges.
The university participates in the "1+2+1 Sino-U.S. Talent Cultivation Program" and has sent students to study in countries like the U.S., Belarus, Ukraine, and Romania. It has signed cooperation agreements with 23 international universities, including the University of Central Oklahoma, Northern Arizona University, Tushia University (Italy), Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology (Russia), and the University of Belarus, among others. The university has also established joint master's degree programs with institutions like Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology and Yan'an University, and it enrolls international students from countries such as Laos, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan.
Longdong University has set up partnerships with leading technology companies, including Microsoft China and other enterprises in sectors like information technology, big data, and petroleum engineering. It has established industry-academic collaboration bases with numerous companies and local governments, providing internships and employment opportunities for students. In 2023, the university was recognized as a "Model University for College Student Employment Work" by Gansu Province.
Rooted in the Loess Plateau of Longdong and enriched by the area's profound historical and cultural heritage, Longdong University follows the school motto "Pursue Virtue, Seek Practicality, Strive for Self-improvement." The university has developed a unique talent cultivation model focusing on undergraduate standards, vocational skills, and innovation and entrepreneurship. It aims to cultivate students with firm ideals, solid professional foundations, outstanding practical abilities, innovative thinking, and a sense of social responsibility. The university has produced over 120,000 application-oriented graduates who have made significant contributions to society.
