Guangxi University of Finance and Economics is a key public undergraduate institution in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, focused on finance and economics. The university's history dates back to 1960 with the founding of Guangxi Commercial College (renamed Guangxi Business School in September 1962) and the establishment of Guangxi Financial and Economic School in 1963. In 2004, it was formed through the merger of Guangxi Finance College and Guangxi Business College.
In 2010, the university passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation with excellent results, marking its transition from a college to an undergraduate institution. In 2011, it became a training institution for the “Special Needs of the Nation” Master's Program in Accounting. In 2012, it became the “China-ASEAN Financial and Fiscal Talent Training Center.” In 2013, it was designated as a university under the Guangxi特色高校 (Distinctive University) initiative. In 2014, it was selected as one of the first “2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers” in Guangxi. In 2016, it was approved to establish the National Economic and Management Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. In 2017, the university was selected as one of the first batch of national pilot universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. In 2021, it was authorized to grant master's degrees, with 15 master's degree programs currently available.
The university has three campuses: the Aisihu Campus, Mingxiu Campus, and Wuming Campus, covering a total area of 1,281,627.09 square meters. It currently has 15 academic departments and offers 51 undergraduate programs across 7 disciplines: Economics, Management, Law, Literature, Engineering, Arts, and Education. The university has a total of 24,638 full-time students, including 23,766 undergraduates.
The faculty comprises 1,271 full-time teachers, including 356 with doctoral degrees and 593 with senior professional titles. Notable faculty members include one national “Ten Thousand Talents Program” leader in the field of philosophy and social sciences, one national cultural figure, and various other distinguished national and regional talents, including national-level accounting leaders and Guangxi top-tier scholars.
In recent years, the university has made significant adjustments to optimize its disciplinary structure, forming a high-level academic system that is well-aligned with the region's economic and social development. Applied Economics and Statistics have been approved as part of the new round of Guangxi's first-class discipline construction projects. The university also boasts 2 key laboratories at the regional level, 4 provincial-level think tanks, and 3 key laboratories in Guangxi higher education institutions, as well as 4 research bases for humanities and social sciences.
Since 2018, the university has received 124 national-level research projects and 342 provincial and ministerial-level projects. Among these are major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, which have placed the university at the forefront of research funding in the region.
The university adheres to the fundamental mission of moral education and talent cultivation, continually improving the quality of its education. It currently has 6 national-level first-class undergraduate programs, 14 regional-level first-class programs, 7 national-level first-class courses, and 31 regional-level first-class courses. The China-ASEAN Digital Economy Institute and the Intelligent Financial and Accounting Industry Institute have been approved as exemplary modern industry institutes in Guangxi's regular undergraduate universities.
In recent years, the university has received one National Teaching Achievement Award and 48 provincial teaching achievement awards. The university places great emphasis on connotative development, following the motto “Cultivate Virtue, Build Trust,” and aims to serve both the local and ASEAN regions, providing strong support to societal development. It is committed to optimizing its academic structure, enhancing its core competitive strength, and striving to become a distinctive, high-level finance and economics university serving the economic and social development of the region.
