Hefei Normal University is located in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province. Its predecessor, Anhui Education College, was founded in 1955 and became a full-time provincial undergraduate institution in 2007. The university is a master's degree-granting institution, an early implementer of the national "Guo Pei Plan" for exemplary training projects, and one of the first pilot schools for the "Excellent Teacher Training Program." It is also one of the first institutions in Anhui to be included in the "Local Applied High-Level University" construction plan and a pilot for the "Three All-Education" comprehensive reform in the province.
The university has three campuses: Jinxi, Binhu, and Sanxiaokou, covering an area of 1,295 acres. Its teaching and research facilities are valued at 241 million yuan, with a library housing 1.2868 million physical books. The university employs over 1,200 staff, including 139 senior professors and 324 associate professors. It has 37 provincial or higher-level talents, including national "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand" talents, 1 recipient of the State Council special government allowance, and 3 provincial-level innovation leaders. Additionally, it has 42 provincial-level teaching teams and 30 provincial-level teaching experts.
The university consists of 14 academic colleges and offers 3 master's degree programs, 17 undergraduate fields, and 58 undergraduate programs. It enrolls over 20,000 full-time students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students. Hefei Normal University has 23 national and provincial first-class programs, 3 national-level first-class courses, and 226 provincial-level first-class courses. It has been involved in 29 national and provincial talent training programs and has established numerous innovation and practice education bases.
In the past five years, the university has been awarded 23 provincial and national-level research achievements, including 3 first prizes. It has published 53 books and textbooks and holds 399 national patents.
The university upholds the fundamental principle of moral education, strengthening students' overall development. Over its 60+ years, it has trained nearly 90,000 professionals, including 180,000 principals and teachers. Its alumni include distinguished individuals like former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gao Hongjun. The quality of student intake continues to improve, with the 2024 fall admission scores surpassing the provincial cutoff by more than 50 points.
Hefei Normal University maintains its tradition of teacher education and serves Anhui’s basic education. It is a key training base for primary and secondary school teachers in central and western China and leads the Anhui Basic Education Development Alliance. The university actively engages in industry-university-research collaboration, particularly in teacher education, electronic information, and biomedical fields, in partnership with local industries and businesses.
The university also prioritizes international collaboration, offering joint education programs with universities in Ireland, Spain, Singapore, and Taiwan, and it began enrolling international students in 2022.
Hefei Normal University actively builds a campus culture centered around "Love for the World, Knowledge and Action Combined" and has won national awards for its campus culture initiatives. It has been recognized as a "National Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization" and has received various awards for excellence in the province.
