Dalian University of Science and Technology is located in the University Town of the Dalian Lüshun Economic Development Zone at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula. Its predecessor was the Information Engineering College of Dalian Jiaotong University (formerly Dalian Railway Institute), which was established in 2002. In 2011, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education to be restructured into a provincial undergraduate university. In 2016, it was approved as a pilot university for the transformation towards an application-oriented development model in Liaoning Province, and in 2019, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education's evaluation of undergraduate teaching quality.
