Nantong University Xinglin College was established in May 2005 as an independent undergraduate college with approval from the Ministry of Education of China. In May 2014, it was registered as a public institution by the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Institutional Registration and Management. The college originated in February 1999 as Nantong Medical College Xinglin College. In May 2004, after the merger of Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology, and Nantong Teachers College to form Nantong University, it was renamed Nantong University Xinglin College.
About Nantong University
Nantong University, the sponsor of the college, is a comprehensive university co-sponsored by the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Ministry of Transport. It is part of Jiangsu's "High-level University Construction Peak Plan." Ranked 100th in the 2023 Chinese University Evaluation and 76th among mainland universities in the Nature Index, it holds 113th place in the ESI comprehensive ranking of mainland universities. The university has 3 postdoctoral research stations, 5 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 22 first-level discipline master's programs, and 22 professional master's degree programs. Nine disciplines rank among the top 1% globally in the ESI database. The university boasts 1619 doctoral and master's advisors, with numerous distinguished scholars, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and other national-level talents. Since the resumption of college entrance exams in 1977, three alumni have become academicians of the two national academies, placing it 35th among universities nationwide.
Xinglin College
Leveraging Nantong University’s high-quality resources, Xinglin College aligns its development with local socio-economic needs, carving out a distinctive path in education. Ranked 25th in the 2023 National Independent College Rankings, its main campus is located in Qidong City, at the southeastern coast of Jiangsu Province, where the Yangtze River meets the East China Sea. The campus spans over 1,200 acres, with 380,000 square meters of building space, providing facilities for up to 10,000 students. It features eco-friendly, garden-style, digital, and sea-view campus designs, complemented by various student activity venues, including sports fields, gyms, and cultural centers.
Medical programs are based at the Chongchuan Campus in Nantong City, known as "China’s First Modern City." Surrounded by picturesque scenery, the campus offers state-of-the-art facilities, creating an ideal environment for study and personal growth.

The college enrolls over 12,500 full-time undergraduate students and has seven academic divisions: Basic Sciences, Humanities, Sciences, Economics and Management, Information Science, Engineering, and Medicine, offering 44 undergraduate programs across seven disciplines. Three programs—Civil Engineering, Public Administration, and Medical Laboratory Technology—are designated as provincial first-class undergraduate programs. Another three programs—Accounting, Marketing, and Computer Science and Technology—are rated as star programs among Jiangsu independent colleges.
Xinglin College emphasizes student-centered education, constantly optimizing its curricula and fostering innovation in teaching. With over 300 practice teaching bases co-established with industries, enterprises, and government institutions, the college integrates practical learning into its programs. Medical students share clinical practice facilities with Nantong University's affiliated hospitals.

Xinglin College has a strong faculty team, with 85.8% holding master's or doctoral degrees and 43.75% with senior professional titles. Many are recognized as high-level talents under Jiangsu’s “333 Project,” “Six Talent Peaks” program, and other provincial initiatives. Faculty have undertaken national and provincial research projects and achieved notable outcomes in teaching competitions and education innovation.
Student Achievements
Students excel in various national and international competitions, including the “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National Undergraduate English Competition, and the American Mathematical Modeling Contest. In 2023, they won 99 provincial and national awards, including several in engineering design, talent skills, and youth innovation contests.
Xinglin students also stand out in community service and volunteer work. In 2023, one student was honored as a “National Outstanding Youth League Member,” and several teams received accolades for volunteer initiatives, including national awards.
Employment and Further Studies
Over the past five years, the college's annual employment rate has remained around 95%. Approximately 10% of graduates pursue further studies or overseas education annually, with many admitted to prestigious institutions like Fudan University, Southeast University, and international universities such as New York University and the University of Sydney.
